GENESEO, N.Y. - Alexander Malkus, professor of piano at the Moscow Conservatory, and his wife, soprano Marlene Mosh (pictured), will perform Russian piano pieces and ancient Armenian melodies during a concert March 1 at 8 p.m. at SUNY Geneseo's Wadsworth Auditorium. The program is free and open to the public.

The first part of the program will feature Malkus performing piano compositions by Russian composers. In the second part, Mosh will perform ancient Armenian melodies. Their appearance stems from a study abroad program in Moscow last summer, led by Robert Goeckel, professor of political science and international relations at Geneseo, when students attended a Malkus solo program at the Shaliapin Museum in Moscow.

Malkus' concert repertoire comprises a large number of musical pieces of different epochs and styles, ranging from the music of the old masters to the avant-garde. He has won prizes in three international competitions and has participated regularly in more than a dozen different European music festivals in Germany, Austria, Italy, Odessa, Moscow, Slovakia and Bulgaria. He is an active teacher in the Moscow Conservatory and the Academic Music College attached to the conservatory.

Mosh studied with voice faculty at the Moscow Conservatory. She has made it a life goal to promote the beauty of ancient Armenian song through authentic performance. She was a prize winner of the "Beauty Will Save the World" competition in 2008 in Moscow. She has performed in many music festivals and on French national radio. Mosh is a member of the Moscow Musical Society and the Union of Russian Writers.

The Geneseo performance is sponsored by several offices and departments -The School of the Arts; the Department of Political Science and International Relations; the Department of Languages and Literatures; the Department of History; the Office of the Provost; and the Office of International Programs' Study Abroad Program.
